Friday Favs

One of my favorite Christmas Movies of all time is Home Alone. This past summer I blogged about the famous Winnetka Illinois that is on the market for $1.95 million here. Today I thought I would give you a tour of the inside of the house as it was in the movie vs how it looks today. Personally, I am not a fan of either of the decor choices; but that does not change the fact that this is a magnificent home with great potential and the set of one of my favorite Christmas Movies ever.

P.S.  I know some aspects of design will always be dated but the line, "Buzz your girlfriend... woof" could be applied to some of the wallpaper decisions in the home, not just the picture Kevin found in Buzz's trunk.

P.P.S. That poor girl who posed for said picture now has her face on "Buzz your girlfriend... woof" T shirts.

Happy Friday!

  2. Too funny! I have always loved that movie. It's interesting to see how it has changed. One thing I do love are the floors. Great job there! Happy weekend! :)

  3. YES! Still makes me happy every time I see that movie. And the house is pretty cool despite the changes - It would be the BEST ice breaker. I'd make my family recreate the sled scene down the stairs each Christmas (carefully...of course).

  4. Truthfully, it's likely that only the exterior of the actual house wa sused in the film, as interiors are usually built on a soundstage for easier filming. It could be the case that the house's interiors were indeed used but it's my experience that interiors are usually moveable sets. And if they are indeed sets built for the production they would be similar to the actual house's but not necessarily identical.

Also, I have heard that Chris Columbus (the director) had a boy made up as a girl pose for the photo of "Buzz's girlfriend" because he felt it would be cruel to make fun of an actual girl in that way. So no poor girl's feelings were hurt!
