The Pampered Pooch Part II

Yesterday my best friend in the entire world had to say goodbye to her best friend.
Today's post is in honor of her 3 1/2 year old Boxer, the most pampered pup there ever was and ever will be... Oscar Massimo Lionheart Oddo "To call him a dog hardly seems to do him justice, though in as much as he had four legs, a tail, and barked, I admit he was, to all outward appearances. But to those who knew him well, he was a perfect gentleman."- Hermione Gingold

"Ask the beasts and they will teach you the beauty of this earth"- Saint Francis

"I have sometimes thought of the final cause of dogs having such short lives and I am quite satisfied it is in compassion to the human race; for if we suffer so much in losing a dog after an acquaintance of ten or twelve years, what would it be if they were to live double that time?" - Sir Walter Scott

"A dog is truly a man's best friend. If you don't believe it, try this experiment. Put your dog and your wife in the trunk of the car for an hour. When you open the trunk, who is really happy to see you?"- Anonymous

Queen of Green

Apparently I have been living under a rock because I had no idea Lilly Pulitzer made market totes! This totally blows any store brand reusable bag out of the water. Plus a Lilly bag under $15? I didn't think it was possible. I grabbed the last three a store had in stock yesterday (one for me, two to give as gifts) and I can't wait to go to the market.

Orange you glad you're green? I love this!

I Told You So

When clients tell me they would love to demo their kitchen and start over but they couldn't possibly get the look they want on their XYZ budget, I suggest Ikea. The look I get is one of disbelief and or disgust... surely I don't know what the hell I am talking about right?  To prove that I am not completely incompetent I will send them pictures of Mom's kitchen-which is fabulous, and now I have more pictures of awesome Ikea Kitchens to prove my point! I hate to say it, but I told you so ;-)

No Particular Rhyme or Reason

For the most part I am a completely symmetrical person, but when it comes to hanging artwork going up a staircase I break free from my symmetrical obsession. Hammering away with no rhyme or reason to where things go and throwing art up on a wall can be fun. It is easy to create this look going up stairs, and a little trickier when doing it on a feature wall. When displaying art work of different shapes sizes and colors this is an easy way to achieve the artsy look!

Too Hot For Weekend Eye Candy

I love summer, but yesterday was 106... it is so hot even Henry doesn't want to go outside. I don't know how our parents did it, but they deserve an award for growing up with out air conditioning. Stay cool!

Teeny Tiny Kitchens

Not everyone is lucky enough to have a kitchen big enough for an island, so how do design a kitchen that feels open without sacrificing looks or storage? Its simple, borrow ideas from small spaces that make it work!

1. Keep it light.

          2. Get creative with space. Open shelving can be a great low cost alternative to
upper cabinetry... If you are a neat freak I give you my blessing to do this.

Honestly being a neat freak isn't enough, you have to be anal retentive.
Its perfectly fine to be matchy matchy here.

      3. Consider a microwave hood. I love decorative hoods,
but in a small kitchen they are not as practical. Opt for the microwave
hood combo and you automatically get more counter space.

4. Great Lighting. Who cares how small your space is!

My chandelier is as big if not bigger than our table! Oh well.
5. Personalize your space by adding a few pieces that make you smile.

Showing a Little Leg

The kitchen is definitely my favorite room in the house. Most people gravitate toward one look for their kitchen inspiration, I generally prefer lighter walls and cabinets in crisp white and gray tones. If I had a house and a surplus of cash I would buy all the carrara marble I could get my hands on. But when it comes to the island I can not fully commit to one color palate or design. Legs or no legs I love them all!

Cheerful Chandeliers

This fun dining room was designer Richard Keith Langham's design for the Hampton Designer Showhouse 2010. I have always loved whimsical chandeliers. Regardless of whether they are in a kids room or a formal dining room, they definitely add character!
